I have already posted twice about Isham Russ's wife, Mary Elizabeth Pinner. Click here for her main post.
Isham RUSS (1783-6 Mar 1832 Brunswick county, North Carolina son of John RUSS and Sarah CORBETT) and Dorcas McKEITHAN (1794-1833 daughter of Moses Madison McKEITHAN and Winnea CORBETT) were first cousins ... their mothers Sarah and Winnea were daughters of James CORBETT and Mary POLLY. Sarah was born in 1748 and Winnea in 1772, according to the info I've been given. I don't actually have any 1st hand evidence of any of this for myself.
_____________________________________________________________________
Isham and Dorcas were the parents of 2 children that I know of:
1- Sarah RUSS b. Apr 1825 (m. about 1849 to John G. HALL)--I have a note in Sarah's file that "Dr. Thomas Wright of Wilmington, North Carolina was Sarah's foster parent." Don't know where I got that from. But her father died when she was about 7 and her mom died when she was about 8...my question is why didn't a relative raise her? And of course, I really don't know--maybe Thomas Wright is a relative.
2- Isham RUSS 1829-1899 (m. about 1853 to Mary Elizabeth PINNER). Since Isham was only 3-4 when his parents died, who raised him? Did Dr. Wright raise him too?

Isham and Mary were the parents of:
1-Virginia Victoria RUSS b. Mar 1854 d. between the 1900 and 1910 census (m. about 1875 to John Bryant KING)
2-Fannie E. RUSS b. Aug 1856 d. between 1910 and 1920 census (m. 27 Mar 1879 to Daniel Davis BULLARD)
3-Adrena Cornelia RUSS b. 1859 d. before 1925
4-Mary Ann/Polly/Molly A. RUSS 7 Mar 1861-6 Apr 1941 (m. about 1884 to Michael McCORMACK)
5-Isham A. RUSS b. Jan 1864 d. between 1900 and 1925 (m. 10 Dec 1891 to Jessie BRYAN)
6-Clarence T. RUSS b. Nov 1867 d. between 1900 and 1925 (m. about 1890 to Mary Francis--I don't know if Francis is her last name or just a middle name--I think it might be a last name)
7-James Dexter RUSS 23 Mar 1870-29 Dec 1933 (m. 26 Apr 1899 to Sally PEACOCK)
8-Etta Johnnie RUSS 19 Jun 1871-4 Jun 1925 (m.8 Feb 1888 to Samuel Kolb MEIGS)--my ancestors

Joseph Ireland Jervis (1764-1841) and Phebe Carll Jervis (1761-1790) Long Island, New York
My 4th great grandfather Joseph Ireland JERVIS is not exactly a brick wall. His second wife Elizabeth Hendrickson is a brick wall, but I'm not actively seeking her parents. What I really want is more information on their children. I don't even have any dates for some of them. Some genealogies confuse Joseph's 2 wives, Phebe and Elizabeth, and have the children listed under the incorrect mother.
The basics:
Joseph Ireland JARVIS is the son of Robert JARVIS (1735-1833) and Sarah IRELAND (1742-1780)
b. 24 Oct 1764 probably Suffolk county, New York (Long Island)
m. 1st on 1 May 1789 Phebe CARLL (30 May 1761-6 Nov 1790)
m. 2nd on 3 Mar 1794 Elizabeth HENDRICKSON (dates unknown)
d. 1841 probably Suffolk county, New York
Joseph and Phebe are the parents of one child, my ancestor (notice Phebe died 2 weeks after his birth):
1-Joel JARVIS/ JERVIS (24 Oct 1790-3 Nov 1863) m. Elizabeth SMITH (click on their names to go to their posts)
Joseph and his second wife Elizabeth had several children, but I'm having a hard time getting dates for them. I have been able to track Hendrickson and his sister Phebe in the census records a bit, and and I have the name of one child of Catherine's (Warren b. 1830), but other than that, what I have written below is about all I have. I do not know if they are in the right order. I was given dates that Robert was born in 1781 and Eliza in 1785 and Maria in 1786, but since Joseph and Elizabeth didn't marry until 1794, errors were made (and this is probably why the children are listed as being Phebe's although Phebe and Joseph married in 1789, so they couldn't have been hers, either).
Joseph and Elizabeth are the parents of:
1-Catharine JARVIS (b. 11 Dec 1796-1847 ) m. John Hicks WILLIAMS in 1818
2-Robert JARVIS
3-Eliza JARVIS m. William CABRIA (William GREGORY?)
4-Maria JARVIS m. Stephen RICHE in 1816
5-Hendrickson JARVIS (b. 1806) m. Jane (and then married Abbie?)
6-Phebe JARVIS (b. between 1809-1825?) m. John Francis ADAMS
7-Harvey JARVIS
8-William JARVIS
In searching census records for the widow of Joseph, Elizabeth Hendrickson Jarvis, I found in the 1850 census an Elizabeth Jarvis age 83 (so born about 1766-67) living with William and Eliza Gregory in Camden, Middle ward, Camden, New Jersey. This census lists them all as being born in New Jersey, including Elizabeth. I found William and Eliza in the 1860 census still in Camden. No Elizabeth Jarvis is living with them and I didn't find her on findagrave either. I'm trying to track some of William and Eliza's children now. I had been told that Eliza had married a William Cambria. I'm guessing it was William Gregory instead.
Hendrickson is listed in the 1850 and the 1860 census records as having be born 1805-1806. In the 1880 census he is list in the household of his sister, Phoebe Adams, and being 65--which would make him being born about 1814-1815. They are about 10 years off on his date.
1840 Census Henrickson Jarvis in Flushing, Queens, New York:
1 male less than 5 years old; 1 male 5-9; 1 male 15-19, 1 male 30-39, 1 female 30-39
-----
Hendrickson and Jane JARVIS household in 1850 census Flushing, Queens, New York:
Hendrickson Jarvis age 44 (b. 1805-1806)
Jane Jarvis age 44 (b. 1805-1806)
Joseph Jarvis age 17 (b. 1832-33 )
Richard Jarvis age 15 (b. 1834-35)
Jane Mundy Jarvis age 8 (b. 1841-1842 )
Henry Jarvis age 5 (b. 1844-45)
William Jarvis age 10 (b. 1839-40 )
Sarah E. Jarvis age 2 (b. 5 Sep 1848 in Flushing, Queens, New York)
For updated info on William, click here.
There is a birth record for Sarah E, so I know she belongs to Hendrickson and Jane.
-----
Hendrickson and Abbey 1860 Flushing:
Hendrickson age 54 mason
Abbey age 45 (2nd wife?)
William age 20 mason
Henry E. age 14
Sarah J age 11
-----
can't find them in 1870
-----
1880 Flushing:
Phoebe Adams age 55
Mary E. Adams age 19 granddaughter b. New Jersey (daughter?)
Hendrickson Jarvis age 65 brother widower (occupation: carman)
and 2 boarders
Now, on to Phebe.
There is a marriage record of a Phebe Jarvis and John Francis Adams for 30 December 1832 held at the Seventh Presbyterian Church New York, New York.
Phoebe Adams is in the 1860 census in Dover, Ocean, New Jersey. This is her family:
John F. Adams age 53 born New York hotel keeper
Phebe 51 (indexed as 57) born on Long Island
Mary E. 19 born New York
Emma E. 16 born New York
Margaret A. 14 born New York
George W. 11 born New York [but we know it was New Jersey]
This is Phoebe in the 1880 census in Flushing, Queens, New York:
Phoebe Adams age 55 born NY-NY-NY
Mary E. 19 NJ-NJ-NJ (granddaughter)
Hendrickson Jarvis 65 NY-NY-NY (brother)
and there are 2 boarders living there with them and right next door is her son:
George W. Adams 31 NJ-NY-NY
Mary 30 NY-NY-NY
John F. 4 NY-NY-NY
George W. 1 NY-NY-NY
I found a death record online that says this:
Phebe Adam [sic] buried in Freehold, [Monmouth,] New Jersey.
She died 2 Jun 1884 at Flushing, [Queens,] New York at age 67. She was born at Oyster Bay, [Nassau,] New York, so she was born about 1817. She was widowed and her parents were Joseph J. Jarvis and Elizabeth Jarvis.
So the 1860 census would have us believe she was born in 1808/09.
The 1880 census would have us believe that she was born in 1824/25.
Her death record lists 1816/17 as her birth year.
Since she was married in 1832, I'm not believing the 1880 census--and I believe they were wrong with Hendrickson's birth, too.
